Fuel Vent Breather Filter

Factory owners don’t want fuel vapors just pouring from their tanks into the atmosphere, so they have set up this vent line from the engine/frame front up into a charcoal canister under the hood and back into the engine itself. A filter should also be present to filter any escaping vapors; according to your owner’s manual this should be changed every 1000 miles.

This disposable breather filter absorbs moisture and organic contaminants, offering protection to drums and tanks of chemicals and petroleum products for over 50 years from water accumulation and microbial growth. After three to six months of daily use, its silica gel pellets turn from blue to pink, signalling when it should be changed out.

To install a new one, remove the Y valve on the vent line, unhook its filter at one end (white/black), insert your snorkle into it, and reattach its check valve on the other end (black/white). These items should be easily available at your local hardware store.
